ASN Session Descriptions

Swimming Sessions

(Will show on app as: Location Asn Swimming – e.g. Icc Asn Swimming)

Where – Fraserburgh, Inverurie, Peterhead, Stonehaven

Description – An adult and child (5-18) session during which the shallow end of the pool will be available allowing shallow water access to suit your confidence and ability. An instructor will be on hand to support and guide you and your child to build confidence in the water, develop skills and technique and work towards building independence in the water for your child. A parent/guardian aged 18+ must be in the water with the child on a 1:1 basis.

Additional Booking Information for Swimming - Due to the nature of these sessions, every child signing up must be accompanied by an adult who should be ready to go into the water if the child’s ability requires this. We promote attending on a 1 adult:1 child basis.

If you are planning to take responsibility for more than one child in a session, you must be able to safely supervise all children you are taking with you. This may mean you have to use suitable swim aids which include arm bands and float vests.

Coached (C) session within a group (G) setting. Floats/ toys will be available for use during the session as we combine instruction with learning through play. 60 minute sessions.

 

Hydrotherapy Sessions

Where – Inverurie

Description – A specialist session for children (5-18) during which the hydrotherapy pool will be available. Please note this is not a swimming session.

An instructor will be in the water to provide relaxation and exercise on a 1:1 basis.

Sessions can only be booked by completing the Inverurie Community Campus Hydro Bookings form below –

You will then be contacted directly by Inverurie Community Campus to book these sessions, once they have deemed the session suitable for your child.

Bouldering

Where – Inverurie

Description – An instructor led fun bouldering session (un-roped climbing) on the Inverurie Community Campus bouldering wall. Standing 4.5 metres high and stretching 15 metres in length, it offers a diverse range of climbing features including slabs, overhangs, vertical walls, aretes, and corners - all designed for un-roped climbing. Now an Olympic sport, bouldering is a thrilling combination of physical strength, technical skill, and mental strategy. It requires minimal equipment - just climbing shoes, a chalk bag, and chalk - making it accessible for all ages and abilities. It is also a fantastic full-body workout.

Lots of games and challenges on and away from the wall. Participants must be able to climb and support themselves unaided. Rock shoes will be provided. Please wear comfortable sports clothing, long hair should be tied back. Children must understand that they must stop before reaching the top of the wall as there is no additional barrier to stop them going over the top of the bouldering wall.

Additional Booking Information –

All participants taking part in Bouldering Wall sessions will receive a safety briefing prior to commencing the session. A safe participation in Bouldering/ Climbing Wall activities form will need to be completed at the start of the session.

Gymnastics and Trampoline Sessions

Gymnastics Sessions

Where – Inverurie

Description – Take part in gymnastics and trampoline activities with instruction from qualified coaches. Children will take turns on the above floor level raised trampoline with the trampoline coach. Please note, children must be able to get on and off the trampoline on their own with the use of access steps – there is no hoist available. Multiple children cannot use the trampoline at the same time, due to the risk of double bouncing. Whilst waiting to be called for their turn on the trampoline, children can try gymnastics activities on the various equipment set ups.

All jewellery must be removed and hair tied up, as required, prior to attending/ taking part in gymnastics and trampoline activities. Children should wear comfortable clothing e.g. a t-shirt and shorts/ leggings for the session. Socks are essential for the trampoline. No hooded jumpers are to be worn for the session.

Additional Booking Information –

All participants taking part in Gymnastics and Trampoline sessions must complete the safe participation in Gymnastics and Trampoline activities form. This must be completed by the child’s attending adult scanning a QR code to complete the form prior to starting the session.

Trampoline and Gymnastics - Coached (C) sessions with structured instruction for the trampoline and also for gymnastics activities available within a group (G) setting. 55 minute sessions.

Trampoline - Coached (C) sessions with structured instruction for the trampoline available within a Pairs (P) setting. 25 minute sessions.

Gymnastics - Coached (C) sessions with structured instruction for gymnastics activities available within a Group (G) setting. 55 minute sessions.

 

Ball Sports

Where – Fraserburgh, Inverurie, Peterhead, Stonehaven

Description – A sports session which will take place within a sports hall. The sessions will include activities associated to Basketball, Football, Rugby, Boccia.

Coached (C) 45 minute and Open play (O) 60 minute sessions available within a group (G) setting.

 

Racquet Sports

(Will show on app as: Location Asn Racquet Sport – e.g. Icc Asn Racquet Sport)

Where – Fraserburgh, Inverurie, Peterhead, Stonehaven

Description – A sports session which will take place within a sports hall. The sessions will include activities associated to badminton, pickleball and short tennis.

Coached (C) 45 minute and Open play (O) 60 minute sessions available within a group (G) setting.

 

Athletics

(Will show on app as: Location Asn Athletics – e.g. Icc Asn Athletics)

Where – Fraserburgh, Inverurie, Peterhead, Stonehaven

Description – A sports session which will take place within a sports hall. The sessions will include activities associated to running, jumping and throwing.

Coached (C) 45 minute and Open play (O) 60 minute sessions available within a group (G) setting.

 

Stay Play Connect

Where – Fraserburgh, Inverurie, Peterhead, Stonehaven

Description – A multi-sports session which will take place within a sports hall. These sessions support an open play environment for children with Additional Support Needs (ASN) and their families to explore sports activities within a positive, friendly and inclusive environment.

Equipment available for open play will vary for each session, but please let us know if your child would like to see anything specific and we will do our best to accommodate this, based on what is available. Support your child to take part to develop their sporting skills whilst interacting and socialising with other families. But most importantly, having fun!

Open play (O) sessions available within a group (G) setting. 60 minute sessions.

 

Sensory Activities

Where – Inverurie

Description – Take part in sensory activities to support your child to regulate and learn through physical activity. All jewellery must be removed and hair tied up, as required, prior to attending/ taking part in the session. Children should wear comfortable clothing e.g. a t-shirt and shorts/ leggings for the session.

Coached (C) session available within a Group (G) setting. 55 minute sessions.

 

Active Sensory Story

Where – Fraserburgh, Inverurie

Description – Take part in an Active Sensory Story adventure with Active Schools Aberdeenshire and Libraries.

What to Expect:

Interactive storytelling

Sensory props and gentle sounds

Movement and physical skills

A calm, inclusive environment

Coached (C) session available within a Group (G) setting. 45 minute sessions.

 

Walk

(Will show on app as: Location Asn Walk – e.g. Icc Asn Walk)

Where – Fraserburgh, Inverurie

Description – ASN Walk for children 5-18 and their families and friends. Take a walk around the local community whilst completing a scavenger hunt. Walk led by trained walk leaders. You must book each child and adult separately, to allow us to determine numbers attending the session.

Coached (C) session available within a Group (G) setting. Approximately 30 minute walk.

 

Bouncy Castle

Where – Inverurie

Description – Inverurie ASN Bouncy Castle for children under 12 of maximum height 1.8m. An adult must stay and supervise their child and support if required.

 

Bouncy Castle Safety

Maximum number of users at any one time:

Children up to 1.0m tall: 7

Children up to 1.2m tall: 5

Children up to 1.5m tall: 4

Children up to 1.8m tall: 3

No adults are permitted on the bouncy castle.

All shoes must be removed before using the bouncy castle or soft play equipment.

No use during inflation or deflation.

Users must not hang or climb on the bouncy castle walls.

A 3.5m clear space is required for safe entry and exit.

Open play (O) session available within a Group (G) setting. 60 minute sessions.

 

Cycling - Parent and Child (P6–S6 years)

Where – Inverurie

Description – This inclusive cycling session is designed for children and young people with additional support needs, offering a calm, supportive space where riders can explore cycling at their own pace. The session takes place in a safe, enclosed area with a variety of equipment to suit different abilities, confidence levels and sensory needs.

A qualified cycling instructor will be on hand throughout to guide you and your child, helping build confidence, develop movement skills, and support progression towards greater independence where appropriate. A parent or guardian aged 18+ should attend with each child, but 1:1 support is not required. Adults are encouraged to be involved, offering reassurance, physical support or simply being present depending on the child’s needs.

What’s Included - The session blends gentle instruction with learning through play, using a range of sensory‑friendly and confidence‑building features such as:

Sensory tunnel for calm roll‑through experiences

Mini track loops for exploring movement and direction

Balance bikes, trikes, adaptive bikes and standard bikes

Cones, toys and playful movement games

Quiet breakout space for riders who need a pause

 Children can choose what they want to try, with no pressure and no comparison.

Additional Booking Information – Because these sessions are tailored to ASN riders, every child must attend with an adult, but adults may support more than one child if they feel confident doing so.

Description – Adventure awaits at the Sir Arthur Grant Outdoor Centre for an Activity Day! Whether you are scaling the heights on our high ropes, getting creative with woodland crafts, or teaming up for epic games and den building — there is something for everyone to enjoy! Led by our friendly, qualified activity leaders, you will be in safe hands while having a blast.

Outdoor Play and Adventure

Climbing frame, balance bars, hanging bars, basket swing, and a low-level bouldering wall for supervised free play.

High ropes activities: Gladiator climb (a vertical obstacle course), tree climb, climbing tower, and a low ropes course—all led by qualified instructors with safety gear, including full body harnesses and helmets, provided.

Games and Team Fun

Soft archery and team building games.

Indoor activities: Table Tennis, Kurling, Boccia, Giant Jenga and Dominoes, Arts and crafts and more.

Nature Exploration

Access to wild woodland (thanks to Monymusk Estate!) for den building, animal tracking, and other nature-based fun.

Campfire Treats

No visit is complete without enjoying s’mores in our cosy BBQ hut!

Note: Activities may vary depending on the weather, but we always have plenty of exciting options to ensure a fun-filled day!

Please ensure you have warm layers and waterproof jacket and trousers (we have spares if needed). Dress for cool, damp weather (layers are your friend!) You will also need wellies or sturdy outdoor shoes, plus a change of footwear for indoor activities.

We have a kitchen for making hot drinks—bring your own snacks and cold drinks. Parents/ Guardians/ Carers are welcome to relax in our kitchen/living area or on the covered outdoor patio. We may ask for your help at times to make sure your child has the best possible experience.
