Introducing a new era for swimming in Aberdeenshire

As the world around us continues to develop and the use of technology becomes even more commonplace, Live Life Aberdeenshire has committed to improving its digital service and its Learn to Swim scheme.  We aim to achieve this through the introduction of dedicated software and improved online accessibility for Learn to Swim customers.  This software is called “Learn2and we will go live with this on Monday 20th April 2020.

What is Learn2?

Learn2 is a piece of software designed to manage continuous sport programmes.

What changes will there be?

  • Swimming instructors will mark attendance and assessments on a weekly basis using a tablet device.  The updated assessment information will be made available to the member at the end of each day via HomePortal
  • Members are given access to HomePortal during the initial sign up process.  This invitation will be via email – please check your email address is up to date
  • Classes will run continuously with a break for the Christmas school holidays.  This means members can move up a level when they are ready and there is a space; rather than waiting until the end of a term.  Assessment letters will no longer be issued
  • Payment methods – there are two options available:
    • Pay by direct debit (see more information below)
    • Pay for ten sessions in advance and topping up the account ten sessions at a time

What is HomePortal

HomePortal is where our customers can access their individual information in order to :

  • View the members updated assessment of competencies
  • Make payment for the next ten sessions (before the final lesson commences)
  • Move the member to the next level, once they have been approved to move

The initial booking process

  • The current term of swimming lessons will be finishing on Sunday 5th April 2020
  • Children currently participating in the Junior lesson programme will receive a payment and assessment letter from week beginning Monday 9th March 2020
  • This letter will detail the class the child has been assigned for the lessons resuming week beginning Monday 20th April 2020
  • The process to follow will depend on the payment method chosen.  Both are detailed below:

Direct Debit (DD)

  • If you currently pay for swimming lessons by DD then the member will automatically join the new Learn2 system and no action needs to be taken by you
  • Look out for the HomePortal activation email which will be sent by your local facility (SwimSchool@aberdeenshire.gov.uk)
  • Activate your HomePortal account to gain all the benefits that Learn2 can now offer
  • If you are planning to leave the programme at the start of April, please notify reception at your local facility to prevent your child from joining the new Learn2 system. Please then email active@aberdeenshire.gov.uk to cancel the direct debit and future payments

Cash Payers (not on DD)

  • Customers will receive payment notification from 9th March 2020 for classes commencing 20th April 2020 onwards
  • Customers will be asked to pay by Sunday 5th April 2020 to secure their space.  There are two options: Set us a DD which would commence from the 20th April 2020. There will be a pro rata amount to pay upfront, when setting up the DD or pay for ten sessions in advance
  • Spaces not paid for by the deadline of Sunday 5th April 2020 will be offered to participants on the waiting list(s)
  • The initial joining process, including payment, must be done at your local facility and cannot be made online or over the phone
  • Future payments will be able to be made online via HomePortal. Connect (the system you use currently via login and pin) will no longer be used to pay for swimming lessons
  • After 20th April – cash paying customers will be given notification by email when there are three, two and then one session(s) remaining
  • Payment letters will no longer be issued. If payment hasn’t been received before the final session commences; the participant will automatically be removed from the class.  The space then becomes available to book by any other customer
