Summer Reading brings together diverse communities from across Aberdeenshire

Live Life Aberdeenshire’s ever popular Summer Reading will launch this week with the theme of Diversity.

The annual event has had successful participation in this reading activity during the summer months for many years and anticipate more engagement again in 2023.

Organised and led by Live Life Aberdeenshire’s Library team, this year’s event will go live on Thursday, 15 June.

In preparation for Summer Reading, staff have been visiting local schools and communities to promote this annual event.

Diversity is about what makes each of us unique and includes our backgrounds, personality, life experiences where we live and our beliefs, all of the things that make us who we are today.

We are also asking members of the public to take part in a Creative competition and design a poster or bookmark that reflects the diverse communities across Aberdeenshire

Jane Brebner, Support Librarian, said, “There are several ways to get involved in Summer Reading from browsing the shelves at your local library, or checking out the Digital Library where eBooks and eAudiobooks can be downloaded, read, listened, or shared with your family.”

Go to our Live Life at Home webpage for all the information you need, including how to register and download a collector’s card, when it goes live on the 15th June.

You can also pop along to one of our Libraries and pick up a card. Once you have completed your collector’s card, you can return it by dropping it off at your local library or sending by email, and it will then be entered into our prize draw.

Prizes this year include an android device, coding kit, junior scientist kits, signed books, free family pass to Macduff Marine Aquarium and many more.

Summer Reading runs from Thursday, June 15 until Saturday, August 26.
