Summer Reading over the Years

Summer Reading has been running now for many years now, starting back in 2001.

Live Life Aberdeenshire Libraries Summer Reading is a fun and accessible activity for all ages to take part in and aims to promote reading, encourage progression, support curricular outcomes, and involve communities in a cultural activity.

Summer Reading was initially designed to ensure that children of all abilities can take part and encourage participants to read their own choice of library books, listen to talking books or download and read eBooks/eAudiobooks over the school summer holiday period. Library staff across Aberdeenshire promote Summer Reading in their local communities and areas.

In 2020, Summer Reading was extended to all ages to take part from 0 to 100 and was online during the pandemic months. In 2021 we celebrated 20 years and continue to have children, young adults, families, adults, and groups taking part across Aberdeenshire.

Why not take a look at what this year's Summer Reading has to offer!
