What is Sports Kit for All?

Sports Kit for All project is a nationwide initiative. The project’s overarching aim is to reduce and remove any participation barriers in sport and physical activity by providing those who may otherwise struggle to participate with free sports kit.

The project has additional benefits of helping to raise awareness of the global environmental challenges by allowing people to reuse clothing, which in turn can reduce carbon footprint and encourage a recycling culture.

To date over 2000 pieces of kit have been donated to families or individuals across Aberdeenshire as part of the project Across Aberdeenshire, there are now local projects running in several networks – Peterhead, Fraserburgh, Turriff, Huntly, Garioch, Banchory and Stonehaven. The projects have been set up by linking with local volunteers and community sports hubs and working with schools, leisure centres, social work and CLD staff.

We have also helped to create a network of support that extends fully across Aberdeenshire, with examples of kit being taken from areas and distributed elsewhere where suitable kit had not been initially available. Raising the profile of these projects is particularly important as we look to find ways of increasing the level of support provided to those who need it.

To increase awareness, LLA and sports hubs held several activity days, where a range of sporting activities have been offered free of charge for communities to attend. Donated sports kit was on display and participants were invited to come and access any kit or donate any unwanted kit to the project.
