Inverurie Active Schools Cooks Up a Sporting Storm

#ActiveSchoolsInverurie recently provided support to Garioch Community Kitchen's “Autumn Kitchen” events over the October Holidays which saw 33 children, ranging in age from 2 years old to 10 years old and 22 adults taking part in three sessions that utilised the facilities at Garioch Community Kitchen and at the Port Elphinstone Community flat.

The first session saw the groups creating Honey Chicken & Veg Noodles & Banana & Tangerine Oats before then taking part in a highly enjoyable session of touch tennis with Judy Murray Foundation, which was linked to the pending tennis developments Garioch Sports Centre.

Session two was hosted at the Port Elphinstone Community flat and saw Tuna & Veg Tarts & Veg Mexican Rice being cooked and enjoyed before a relaxing session of Pilates with Active Schools coach Fiona Morris.

The week then finished with Veg Mexican Rice & Baked Apples and a session of Junior Jog with Active Schools coach Paul Kelly.

Summing up the weeks activities, Mandy Dambruoso, Cooking Development Tutor at the Garioch Community Kitchen said “ The sessions went really well and were well attended. The families loved the tennis, very excited when they came back! One of the parents joined in the Pilates and really enjoyed doing this with her daughter. They all enjoyed the session on Friday so a really good week”.

Across Scotland, Sportscotland had their October theme as “Nutrition and Sport” month and this partnership between Garioch Community Kitchen, Inverurie Early Years Forum and Active Schools Inverurie ensured that some delicious food and some high quality sport and physical activity was enjoyed by all who attended.
