Team Building Sample Activities

Hole Tarp

The team has to keep a ball on a tarp. The tarp has holes on it, so they have to work together to ensure the ball doesn’t fall through any of the holes. The goal is to have the ball moving on top of the tarp for as long as possible.

Marble Run Equipment

With eight to ten pieces of drain pipe and a ping pong ball work out how to place pieces of pipe next to each other in a line and allow the ball to roll along their piece of pipe and in to the next person’s

Keypad

An energising game against the clock.  An area of approx. 5 x 10m is marked out with 30 numbered discs scattered on the ground.  Within the rules, the team must organise themselves so that each disc is touched in order one at a time.  Can the team come up with strategies to achieve a record-breaking time?

Route map

A map reading & direction exercise.  A pattern of cones is set up. Team members follow a map with a route.  They learn the cardinal points of the compass & the value of ‘setting’ the map to the ground. Various levels of complexity are gradually added

Plank Skiing

2 or 3 people share a pair of ‘skis’.  Something like a 3-legged race, they need to coordinate themselves to negotiate a track with obstacles.  Will they manage to reverse round a course?  Not so suitable for younger primary ages

Crocodile Bridge

2 planks and 3 wooden blocks.  Each team of 3-4 need to come up with a strategy to get to the other side without touching the ground

Giant Jenga

Oversize wooden blocks to build a tower- how high can it get without tumbling over?

Da Vinci Bridge

The teams are shown bridges constructed of planks.  The bridge is dismantled & the team must figure out how to rebuild it- more difficult than it looks!

Tug O' War

A rope, brawn and brain.
