When Fiction Becomes Fact is a Live Life Aberdeenshire Libraries project funded by the Scottish Library and Information Council’s Public Library Improvement Fund.
This initiative is designed to help our communities confidently navigate today’s online world by recognising fake news, misinformation, disinformation, and online scams. With online threats on the rise, it is more important than ever to understand how to stay safe and know which information you can trust.
Over the coming months, we will be delivering a programme of events and activities, including talks led by experts covering a wide range of online safety dangers. These sessions will provide practical guidance on identifying reliable sources, protecting your digital identity, and separating fact from fiction in everyday life.
Our library teams have also recently received dedicated training to help support you with any questions you may have. These staff members are known as Misinformation Mentors, and you will be able to easily identify them by their ‘Mentor’ lanyards.
Join us for the official ‘When Fiction Becomes Fact’ launch event on 30th April at Westhill Library, from 7:30pm to 9:30pm.
We are delighted to welcome radio journalist, writer and podcaster Theresa Talbot, who will lead the evening’s programme. Theresa will also host a short interview with online safety expert Jana Vidis, offering valuable insights into staying safe and informed online. Also in attendance will be Police Scotland and Trading Standards.
The event is free to attend and is suitable for adults of all ages who want to ensure they know how to keep themselves and others safe online.
