Music is a powerful way for young people to express themselves, be creative and feel good. The Youth Music Initiative (YMI) is Scotland’s commitment to making sure music is part of every child’s life and learning, opening up opportunities to explore, create and connect through music. We believe every child should have the chance to experience and enjoy music, regardless of their background or previous experience. In Aberdeenshire, Creative Scotland’s YMI Formula Fund ensures that every pupil is offered a year of free music tuition before the end of primary school. Alongside this, we work with pre-school groups and young people in communities, targeting provision where it can make the most difference, supporting efforts to reduce inequalities and tackle child poverty. With support from Creative Scotland, Live Life Aberdeenshire’s Arts Team delivers high-quality and inspiring music experiences.
